Lecture (1) Practical parasitology 23/2/2019
Protozoa : Amoeba
Free-living amoeba ,Nonpathogenic (commensal but under certain circumstances they can infect humans) .
PARASITE: Entamoeba coli
They are found in the environment in contaminated water sources in developing countries .
Disease: Entamoebiasis.
Host: human and dog .
Habitat: Large intestine.
Identification:
Trophozoite move very sluggishly. The cyst form has 8 distinct nuclei.
Importance:
It is important because it must be differentiated from E. histolytica.
Life cycle:
The life cycle involves precyst ,cyst, metacyst , and trophozoite forms . Reproduction of the parasite by binary fission .
Infective stage: Mature cyst.
Transmission: By ingestion of the mature cysts with contaminated food or water.
Pathogenicity :
patients with intestinal hemorrhage" that leads to blood in the stools of these patients. Large populations of E. coli may lead to dyspepsia , hyperacidity, gastritis , and indigestion .
Diagnosis:
Light microscopy, serological methods, antibody detection tests , antigen detection tests, immunochromatographic assays, and DNA poly chain reaction diagnostic tests.
Control:
Personal and public cleaning .
Treatment :The patient was treated with metronidazole.
Trophozoite of E. coli Cyst of E. coli
E. coli differs from E. histolytica in various regards. It is bigger in size,
the ectoplasm and endoplasm are not clearly differentiated , and food
vacuoles contain only bacteria. The mature cyst contains eight nuclei . It
is non-pathogenic, but occasionally found to be associated with diarrhoea.
Parasite : Endolimax nana
It can cause chronic diarrhea , reproduce of the parasite by binary
fission .
Morphology :
The trophozoite and has a granulated and vacuolar cytoplasm ,with
single nucleus . The cyst it is usually small a spherical shape with four
nuclei .
Endolimax nana trophozoites
Endolimax nana cysts
Habitat : large intestine.
Infective stage : cyst
Transmission: By ingestion of the cysts with contaminated food or
water.
Clinical Features : it can cause chronic diarrhea
Laboratory Diagnosis :
light microscopy, serological methods and immunochromatographic
assays, and DNA poly chain reaction.
Treatment : The patient was treated with metronidazole.
Control: Personal and public cleaning .
Parasite : Iodamoeba buetschillii
Trophozoite has a single large nucleus , oval cyst contains only one
nucleus , trophozoite lives in cecum, it is reproduce by binary fission .
Transmission : By ingestion of the cysts with contaminated food or
water.
Symptomatic : Diarrhea when infection with a high population of
parasite.
Treatment :The patient was treated with metronidazole.
